Fresh IP is seeking an experienced patent attorney to join our collegial and well-established practice as a partner. This role is ideal for a senior attorney who enjoys managing client relationships, producing high-quality work, and handling complex patent prosecution matters, while benefiting from strong institutional support and a stable platform.
You will join an established firm with a steady base of ongoing patent work and long-standing client relationships. In this role, you will help manage portions of the firm’s existing client base, oversee and refine associate work product to ensure consistently excellent quality, and personally handle sophisticated substantive matters as appropriate. You will also have the opportunity to continue servicing your own clients and to grow your practice over time with firm support. The position also includes opportunities to work closely with senior attorneys on the transition and ongoing management of established client relationships within the firm.
Our practice focuses primarily on patent preparation and prosecution, with a particular emphasis on foreign and mid-size clients. We are intentionally growth-oriented but flexible in approach, and we work collaboratively with our partners to support business development in a manner that aligns with individual goals and existing practices.
Fresh IP provides comprehensive administrative and paralegal support, allowing partners to focus on practicing law, managing client relationships, and high-value work—rather than firm administration. Our partners benefit from this infrastructure while retaining a high percentage of their billings.
The firm has offices in Reston, VA; Charleston, SC; and Los Angeles, CA. All team members may work remotely using our secure and fully cloud-based practice management systems.
Qualifications
Registered U.S. patent attorney
At least 5 years of patent prosecution experience
Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and deliver excellent work product
Experience or background in software, mechanical engineering, and/or electrical engineering strongly preferred
Design patent experience is a plus
An existing client base or experience managing clients is preferred; we recognize that books of business may evolve over time and are open to reasonable transition arrangements for the right candidate
This opportunity is well suited for:
A large-firm attorney seeking greater autonomy and closer client relationships in a smaller-firm environment
An established solo practitioner looking for infrastructure, staffing support, and a stable platform for growth
A partner- or near-partner-level attorney interested in long-term practice development within a collaborative firm
Fresh IP values thoughtful, well-crafted work product, strong client relationships, and a professional, low-politics environment. We offer a stable and supportive platform for experienced attorneys who want to focus on excellent legal work while building a sustainable and rewarding practice.
